Why OnePlus Outpaces iQOO in the Competitive Indian Mobile Gaming Hardware Landscape

The capital flows through VC fund commitments and direct startup stakes scheduled to close by year-end 2026 — a strategic redirection that lands at a moment when Indian mobile esports leans more heavily on publisher R&D than ever before.

Where the capital is landing

According to Nihansh Bhat, Krafton India's lead for corporate development, the firm is wrapping closures on two VC funds and three startup investments within this calendar year. Annual deployment sits at $50–60 million into ventures with "synergies" to the Krafton group — reclassified this cycle as AI and consumer internet rather than gaming-infrastructure plays. On 21 April, Krafton partnered with Mirae Asset's India arm to launch a ₹6,000 crore (~$620 million) unicorn investment fund, with Krafton positioned as financial backer. Prior sector commitments include gaming-focused Lumikai and consumer internet-facing 3one4 Capital — the latter with portfolio exposure to Tracxn and Darwinbox. Bhat frames the posture as strategic investor: deeper integration with portfolio companies, advisory access across the group, not just capital on deposit.

What this means on the device side

Sustained thermals, frame pacing, and actuation tuning are the spec axes competitive BGMI players grade hardware against. Publisher capital historically underwrote optimization work that informed those silicon conversations. A redirection toward AI and consumer internet does not sever that pipeline overnight — but the marginal rupee is being reallocated elsewhere for the next planning cycle. iQOO and OnePlus continue to ship chipsets pitched at sustained BGMI workloads; the open question is whether publisher-side optimization partnerships stay funded through the 2027 device cycle or quietly get deprioritized.

The wider gaming-capital drift

Krafton's redirection sits inside a broader correction across gaming-adjacent capital. Netflix's recent shutdown of two internal game studios — a quiet exit from first-party development — sits in the same strategic drift toward cash-flow classification over growth-asset treatment. Patient capital is re-tiering games as a line item, not a frontier. The funding-winter context cited by VCs in the broader Indian market reinforces the read: capital is available, but sector-aligned expertise is the filter now.

Verdict: skip the panic. The competitive scene isn't collapsing. The capital stack around it is rotating.
